A mobile classroom on a bus named IT Mitan Rath has been introduced by the district administration. The bus goes to various schools every day. The bus functions as a computer lab which is used to teach computers to children who cannot access computers otherwise. The children can get computer training in the lab. The lab has been equipped with state-of-the-art devices. The bus has three trainers for giving training to the students. All the schools of the villages have been covered by this bus. The bus was dedicated to the people of Chhattisgarh by the Chief Minister of state.
The bus has been very popular among students of the district. Since its inception, the bus has covered many schools in the district. The children who had only heard about computers but could never use them are now familiar with computers thanks to this bus. They are now regularly using the lab facility to learn and practice. It is a completely new world of possibilities for these children.
The district administration of Surajpur has a vision of connecting the population to the IT world. The IT Mitan has been serving the purpose of improving the skill level of the people. The children that are getting regular training from the IT Mitan are being introduced to the new world where IT plays the most significant role of an enabler.
Apart from providing training in IT skills, the bus is also improving the attendance of students in schools. The IT Mitan is an attraction for them. They are excited about the IT Mitan coming to their school and everybody wants to be a part of it. They want to experience it. The excitement associated with the IT Mitan has improved the number of students attending school in Surajpur.
The government of India has envisioned a future for the country where all the Indians will be connected to the digital world. Eliminating the digital divide is a major priority for the government of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised this in his Digital India campaign. Chhattisgarh government is also taking forward the Digital India campaign with various schemes. The IT Mitan is playing a major role in fulfilling this dream of connecting every citizen to the digital world by educating the youngsters about computers and making them familiar with IT. The Surajpur administration’s initiative is a highly effective model for spreading IT education which can be adopted by other states as well.
