Manisha Soni of Jashpur district in Chhattisgarh comes from a simple family. It consists of her parents and her brother and her. Her father and brother are farmers and no one in the family has ever done a job. Manisha had the dreams of doing something on her own and she got the opportunity in the form of a course at the Livelihood College of Jashpur.

When Manisha first heard about the Livelihood College and various courses available there, she found it interesting. She found out that these courses are industry specific and are fully professional so as to make it easy for the students to get jobs. It was also a matter of relief for the students that the college was fully residential and the study materials were free of cost.

Manisha looked into various courses and she found the course on sewing to be most suitable for her. She took up the course and started to learn professionals sewing work along with other girls who joined the course. “We learnt all types of sewing work and now I can do anything. I am fully trained in all sort of sewing work and I can handle any kind of work. This has also given me a lot of confidence.” She says.

Another aspect that attracted Manisha to the course was that placement assistance was provided to the trainees at the end of the course and she was selected for a job at Hyderabad. She is now excited about her work and is ready to start working. She is happy that she will be able to fulfil her dreams now and will also be able to contribute to the family in a significant way.

Manisha is an example of success and inspiration for many other girls. She and the others who have succeeded in getting jobs are also inspiring the other girls in the class. They think they can also get their dream jobs anywhere in the country after completion of the course. The sewing course has been very successful among the young girls and more and more girls are showing interest in the course. It is not just the sewing course, however, that is attracting trainees. All the other courses in the Livelihood College have been very popular and youths from all over the state are showing interest in joining the course.

Manisha feels that it is slowly because of the course on sewing in Livelihood College that she has been successful in getting a job. “It is because of this training that I have achieved what I have achived now. Without this training I would have never been able to get this job. The training that I got will help me further and I am confident that I will be able to do better and better in my job in the days to come.” She says. Manisha is an example of how a lot of girls in Chhattisgarh are changing their lives with skill training in the Livelihood College.
