After finishing 12th standard, Anguri Toppo of Jashpur in Chhattisgarh had went to another state to pursue some vocational courses. But even after working hard she did not get any job. She came back frustrated. It was the time she learnt about the Livelihood College in Jashpur. “I was depressed and I did not know what to do. At that time I met a teacher from the Livelihood College. She told me to come to the college and see if I like any of the courses. I came here and I was amazed to see so many professional courses. The one that I liked most was Food & Beverages and I decided to take up this course.” This is how Anguri narrates her experience.
After starting the course Anguri learnt a lot of things about the food & beverages sector that has helped her increase her confidence. She also learnt to talk more confidently and deal with various situations. She says the course has resulted in significant improvement in her social and people skills. She feels that the course has given her the ability to face the world.
The Livelihood College is a concept adopted by the Chhattisgarh government to impart skill education to the youths of the state to make them employable for the various industries. The college offers fully residential courses to provide the youths with skills suitable for various industries. The study materials are also provided free of cost apart from accommodations.
The objective of the Livelihood College is to turn Chhattisgarh into a hub of skilled manpower. The Livelihood College in Jashpur is effectively fulfilling this objective with its unique courses and hardcore emphasis on skill training. The students in various courses are getting trained in their respective fields and are also getting placements. Anguri is an example of the students who have been successfully placed in jobs. She has just been selected for a Job in Gujarat and she is very excited about it. She is eagerly waiting to join and start a new life. “I want to work and be independent. I don’t want to seek money from my family for anything. But most importantly I want to contribute to the family. Now with this job I will be able to do that” She says.
Anguri is one of the many young men and women doing such courses in the Livelihood College. They are all gearing up for a better future. The Chhattisgarh government’s vision to provide livelihood to all has been successfully transformed into reality through the Livelihood Colleges around the state. The efforts to provide skill training to the youths to solve unemployment issue as well as to strengthen the economy is indeed a remarkable achievement. The effort has had a profound impact on the society and economy.
The Livelihood College at Jashpur is a highly successful and it plans to expand in the coming days. Increasing the number of trainees as well as the number of courses is also a major objective.
